Shams Mulani has spent the better part of five years knocking on the doors of the Indian team. The Mumbai left-arm spinner has piled up wickets, contributed with the bat and recently earned the Player of the Series award in India A’s first-class series against Australia A. Yet, a senior India call-up remains elusive.
“I am really proud to be playing for Mumbai, and I enjoy playing. You cannot afford to lack anywhere when you are playing for Mumbai,” Mulani said after helping the 42-time champions begin their Ranji Trophy campaign with an innings-and-155-run victory over Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium. Because of the bench strength we have, there is a different pressure altogether.
Because that is human nature, you might get disappointed somewhere,. “I don’t take any game for granted. I try to perform in every game and give my best to the team. The door has not opened yet, but I am a patient guy. I will keep working hard and putting up performances. Hopefully, one day it opens. “There are times when you feel you should have got a chance on a tour. But my job is to keep performing for Mumbai. Mulani was particularly pleased to share the workload with Kotian as Mumbai wrapped up the Chandigarh fixture inside three days. “Tanush and I enjoy bowling together.
I am proud to do that, and I will continue doing so,” he said. Whenever we get an opportunity to bowl together, we end up taking wickets as well,” he said.
