Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has announced the appointment of Zaheer Khan as their new head coach for the upcoming IPL 2027 season. The former Indian pacer steps into the role after Stephen Fleming, who has been at the helm since 2009, concluded his tenure with the team in 2026. This change marks a significant shift in leadership for CSK as they prepare for the next season of the Indian Premier League.
With the mega auction set to take place before 2028, it remains to be seen if this is a short-term arrangement. Interestingly, the announcement hints that Zaheer will be on a one-year contract. Zaheer’s distinguished playing career and proven ability to nurture young talent make him a valuable addition to our set-up. We are confident that his guidance will help strengthen the core of the franchise. K.S. He’s one of the finest cricketing brains, and we look forward to having him in our family. As a cricketer, I have faced CSK on the field and have thoroughly enjoyed the contests. The atmosphere created by the superfans at Chepauk makes it even more special. I can’t wait to join the franchise with such a rich history”.
Rupa Gurunath, owner, CSK, said: “We are pleased to confirm Zaheer as the head coach. Viswanathan, Managing Director, CSK, said: “Zaheer is a world-class bowler and has been a mentor to many young cricketers, especially fast bowlers, over the years. Zaheer said: “It’s an honour to be a part of one of the most successful teams in the history of the IPL.
The former New Zealand skipper was removed from the job earlier this year after three poor seasons for the five-time champion, in which it failed to qualify for the playoffs. Zaheer has previously been part of the coaching set-up with Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giant.
